Now more than 15 years ago, Neil Meisel was looking for a place to practice Rolfing, lead meditations, and teach yoga; at the same time, Michael Fahey was looking for a place to share his passion for yoga as taught by B.K.S. Iyengar.
With Michael's background as a skilled craftsman and carpenter, he & Neil built our beautiful studio by hand and opened The Awareness Center in 2001.
Their intention was to create
a place to go beyond the distractions of our daily lives- and indeed they did.
Many students have graced our studio, including many who have called The Awareness Center home for many years. One of those long time students, Rebecca Faye Powers, went on to study at the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health and returned to teach in 2011, eventually becoming our studio director.
As the years have passed, the heart of the studio has never changed; it has always been a place to participate in practices--whether they be yoga, meditation,
T'ai chi--that support us in living more wisely and deepen our understanding of the interconnection of all life.
